I was 16 when War broke out. I remember when the first air raid post was hit. We thought it would fall down. The windows cracked.
As far as rationing is concerned, I worked in a grocers and I dealt with ration books, counting all the coupons and serving at the counter. I didn't get any extra rations, but my Aunt got extra because she was a diabetic.
We worked with the Lifeboys, taking them trips and training them for displays.
We took them to Edinburgh once and nearly lost two of them, we eventually found them though.
I met my husband then, he was a Lifeboy, boys brigade leader as well. We went to country dances, theatres and whatever was available at the time.
