Ronald Bennett joined the RAF on 30th January 1946 and was stationed at Kimbolton, Bedfordshire. He thought it was very close to Bedford, but when he had to walk home to visit his fiancee he discovered differently.
He had to ask for compassionate leave from Kimbolton because he wanted to marry Doris on 6 April 1946. Doris and Ronald had know each other since Doris was 13 when her bike tyres had been let down by her friends to attract his attention.
He never managed to pass out because he was so busy getting married and when he got back from the wedding the parade had already happened.
He was then posted to Lokin in Western Super Mare. He did his training weeks there coming home on embarkation leave after which he went to Singapore and Kai Tak in Hong Kong where he repaired Dakotas for 110 Squadron.
Doris spent the time making printators for the forces and picture frames. She wanted to go into the Land Army, but couldn't be released from this important job.
