In the Chittagong area we made our acquaintance with the 26th Indian Division with whom we were intended to work for the next few months. I was joined by Rex Crompton, my 2 I/C, who had been sent to the Imphal-Kohima Front when I had gone on the parachute course. The party included one English Naval Telegraphist with a somewhat unusual surname, G F Boomsma. It had a slightly Dutch sound to it although he gave his home address as Stepney, E1, London. He was stout-hearted but frail in physical stature and it seemed hard to subject him to what lay ahead. The other two telegraphists were Indian with the same surname of Nair, but no relations. K D Nair was immensely tough and strong; V R Nair a good average. All were highly proficient at operating the wireless set.
