Vivid Memories of Wartime as an 11- to 14-years old in Eltham, London, SE9 between 1942 and 1945.

® Doing a paper round and collecting shrapnel, bullet case and incendiary bomb fins, from previous night’s raid.
® Getting machine-gunned in daylight after coming out of a cinema.
® Diving into Anderson shelter when siren went whilst on paper round.
® Out cycling and watching oil bombs descending.
® Watching “doodle-bugs” and waiting for the explosions.
® Being two streets away from a V2 and seeing the utter devastation afterwards.
® Rationing, queuing, and sweet coupons.
® Schooling totally disrupted and being moved around so many times.
® Being evacuated for two weeks. I pined and Mother had me home.
