I never knew my father. My parents split up when I was too young to realise what was happening. My mother would never talk about my father, only to say that he had deserted us, although she had always loved him.

I never knew any of my father's family, and it is only during the past couple of years that I have been able to trace them.

I actually found out what happened to my father by accident.
