I was in the Submarine Base for two and a half years at Blythe, Northumberland.
Once, some of the Ack Ack guns were firing at the enemy and the fuses weren't set properly. About six shells fell; one landed in the canteen; two french soldiers were lying there blown to bits.
That was terrible, blood and everything.
