I was staying with me grandfather in 39 Standen Road, Southfields, Wandsworth. My father was in the navy. We were in the only house that still had gas. The rest had electric. It was 1944 and I was five.
I was in the cot in the front room. Heard a bang and it blew the windows in. Good thing it was taped. I just sort of got up quick out of the way!
When you’re young, I never took too much notice, not like today when you’d be more aware. I was used to it you see.
