I was born in 1932 so was very young during WW2 but I do remmeber very clearly the everyday civilian life and also big things like the Clydeside Blitz and VE and VJ Days. I grew up to be a very academic pupil at Renfrew High and Paisley Grammar Schools who went on to University in Glasgow, trained as an English teacher and taught in Glasgow and Perth for 30 years. I married Andrew Douglas in 1959 and we had two sons in 1960 and 1965. I became involved in the Folk revival as a singer, songwriter, club, concert and festival organiser,
folk directory editor, broadcaster and recording artist, and did a PhD project for Stirling University in 1986, had six books published and was on the editorial team of the Greig-Duncan Folk Song Collection. I also served on the national committees of the Traditional Music and Song Association, the Scots Language Society and the Scottish Storytelling Forum. With my elder son, I founded the Merlin Press. My husband died in 2003.
