Arthur Clark,
My father was conscripted on september 1939 at Ladysmith barrack's Ashton. From their he was put in the royal engineer's he was in the 42 section incharge of lighting, he served in France in early 1940, and he ended up at Dunkirk. On his return to England my father's unit was put in charge of guarding an airfield because there was no R.A.F to do the job.
After he was sent to Ferrow isle's to guard against enemy u-boats,there was evidence that he it may be used as a u-boat base.Nearing the end of the war,he was at the Potsdam conference. He me Churchill,Trueman and Stallin. He was demobe in 1946 at Ashton (Manchester). So all in all a quiet intersting War.
