Attached is my sketch whilst listening to Churchill's speech, sitting on a wooden case my father had made me to carry all my drawing materials, with a jam-jar of water on the floor, and my Winsor & Newton paintbox in one hand and my brush in the other, with the huge crowd behind me stretching up to the National Gallery. I was thus uniquely the only person in the entire square recording visually this memorable scene!
Was full-time art student at St. Martin's School of Art up the road in Charing Cross Road at the time, and was living back in my old home in the heart of the West End - Rathbone Street, North side of Soho -after returning from being an evacuee at Marlborough College, then Magdalen College.
