Lighting Smokescreens
This is my memory of a soldier lighting two smokescreens outside houses in Holcombe Street, Derby, during the war.He had a khaki uniform, black boots, white gaiters between boots and socks. The reason for the smokescreens was the proximity to the Rolls Royce factory , LMS locomotive works, and Carriage and Wagon, Leys Malleable Castings, Combustion, Qualcast. I believe the soldier may have come from the Sherwood Foresters at the then Normanton barracks in Sinfin Lane, Derby.
