I have been married 63 years. I married at 19 to a Police Officer with 5 years service. It was June 1940 and the raids were very heavy in Birmingham. My husband got the B.E.M trying to rescue people. I spent 13 weeks in the shelter. My husband having to work 12 hour shifts at night. Not good for a new bride. In 1943 my husband was called up to the Navy and was on Atlantic convoys. I went for months not knowing whether he was dead or alive. Both my children were born without my husband being with me. our daughter was 5 mnonths old before he saw her and when our son was born he was on continuous operations for D Day. There is a lot more to tell if you are interested. Please contact me on 01252 733171 (Mrs Payne)
