In the war there wasn’t any fruit to buy. When any arrived at the greengrocer’s we had to queue with our ration books and could only have one piece per book. I went to a school fete and bought a raffle ticket for my mother. Food parcels were the prizes and I won first prize, but there was also one orange. I had the orange. Did I get into trouble when I got home!
