Eric Warr was my father (I am his son, Hilary Warr) and I know almost nothing about his time as Assistant Chief Censor at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ during the war. He must have signed the Official Secrets Act and so was always vague about his work to my mother. I was born in 1943 and I now wish I had pressed him further about his war work.
I am convinced he had connections with Bletchley Park, and my mother told me that he had a special telephone line to the Cabinet War Rooms - it was the white telephone, apparantly, which I have seen there. He also dealt with the American Liason Unit and in so doing became a great friend of the American War Correspondent, Edward R. Murrow, who became my Godfather. I am only just starting on this research journey and do not know really where to start. I was hoping to contact some sort of archive department at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ but have ended up at this web-site. So this is the end of my father's "story" until such time as someone somewhere can tell me more. I do know that he was on thirty-six hour duty and that he had a bed in the basement of Broadcasting House...he befriended a mouse there as a pet. My father was born in 1905 but is now of course dead, as so is my mother. I have no brothers or sisters.
(Mr.) Hilary Warr
