At the time I woudl have been 7 years old, I can remember Liverpool being on fire; the docks seemed to be ablaze. The troop ships came to Liverpool and would anchor at Seacombe. I remember, the soldiers would be singing. I'd stand on a wall waving to them with a tea cloth.
I can also remember my father going away, he was torpedoed twice. Shortly after, I was evacuated to Shropshire with my brothers; we were seperated. The people I was living with bought me a celluloid doll. It was 18 months before my dad brought us all home, I can remember eating paste sandwiches at the village hall.
