My mother, Marie Plumlee, has told me stories of her pen-pal. They wrote each other for four years. The world was so different then. They began writing each other in late 1937 or early 1938 -- and wrote until Blitz began. The letters stopped, but the memories did not. The value of one young person in another's world cannot be measured. The only thing Mom has left of this correspondance is a name and a partial remembered address:

JOAN TROMBLEY
BARKERS BUTTS LANE
COVENTRY

If Joan is alive, she would be in her early 80's now. My mother has always been a little afraid to try to find out anything, because Joan lived in Coventry. They corresponded until Joan signed up for something -- Mom cannot remember what. And then the letters stopped.

Does anybody know this name? Does anybody know what happened to Joan Trombley?

If so, please contact me through the site. It would mean the world...

Marie's Daughter, Kayla
