Another wartime memory was the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbour. I particularly remember hearing the news of it on the wireless because it happened on my 11th birthday, 7th December 1941. I had never heard of Hawaii at that time, let alone Pearl Harbour, but it was an extremely significant event as it brought America into the war.
