My parents were married in 1944, they tried to obtain a wedding cake for the celebrations but with no luck. One of the main confectioners in the area supplied a two tier wedding cake with icing and decorations. But the entire cake was made from two cardboard boxes (iced) and inside the lower iced box was a jam sponge. The false cake had to be returned to the confectioner ready for the next wedding.
