Across the road from our house was a big lorry that had a massive chimney —to me it was miles high, but I was only five! They used to send smoke over the important areas so German planes got lost in the smoke and couldn’t find their target. Because of that, a lot of planes came down elsewhere, and a lot of houses got hit.
