My two uncles, Les and Harry Norgrove, who also lived at Manchester Road - were members of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Guard and used to have to do night guard duty and go on exercises. I don't remember seeing any rifles but they must have had them. We never went anywhere without our gas masks and Identity Card which was accepted by all - why the fuss today? I do not remember feeling short of meat, I think it was 4ozs per week, but I did miss the sweets. Fruit, when we could get it, took the place of sweets
