I lived with my parents and brother in Cook Street Pendleton. The bomb dropped on the houses and shops opposite owned by the Ward Family. The gas main was on fire. A fireman had connected a hose pipe to a fire hydrant with the hope of containing the fire from spreading. It was much later that I remembered that I stood talking to one of the Ward family just before the bomb landed. By chance I was in the crypt air raid shelter St Georges Church on Whit Lane when the bomb landed.
