My work was checking the time and work sheets of the prisoners - (Often they were escorted to Underfell, Underbarrow Rd with their farmer employers that they lived with), for various information regarding feeding coupons I was responsible for. They were only lads and I had a brother abroad at that time. Feeling sorry for them I would make them a cuppa and share my lunch with them. As I was due to be married they all signed their names and made me a tray, jewellery box and coffee table. Alas, I've only still got the last one, but will never forget their kindness and often wonder how many are still alive.
