My great uncle was called Sonny and at the start of the war he was a chartered surveyor. He joined the RAF and became an airgunner. This meant sitting in a glass dome trying to fire at oncoming planes.
The plane was a Lancashire bomber and it crashed coming back from Germany. My great uncle died instantly at the age of 21.
My grandmother remembers waiting at Prestatyn railway station for his body to come home. The union jack and his flying jacket were put on top of his coffin. The family was totally devastated and my great great Grandfather died of a broken heart six months later.
