I was born in 1937 in Nuneaton Warwickshire near Coventry. One night during an air raid we were in the shelter. My elder brother who was a “messenger” suddenly pushed my father on (invalid) into the shelter. His wheelchair spun around, it had been hit by shrapnel from a bomb. He was still removing shrapnel from his arms years later, but that night my brother saved his life!
