The evening before V E day I was anxiously waiting for Winston Churchill to announce the end of the war in Europe. There were further delays then on 8 May 1945 it was to be announced at 12 mid-day. That same day and at the same time my mother came with an envelope from the postman,it was the result of my 11 plus exam - I had passed to attend Prince Henry's Grammar School in Evesham.
I have never forgotten that day, good news and relief all round!
V J Day came just a few days before my 11th birthday and a few weeks before I started at my new school.
