Phillip Dickins told this story, he has agreed to the ѿý terms for entry of stories to the website.

Sid North joined the Northampton ѿý Guard when it was set up in 1940. There were no weapons available. He had a shotgun, but all the others only had pitchforks. The Northampton ѿý Guard were sent to the south coast to relieve the hard pressed local ѿý Guard. The person in charge said to Sid “you’re a country boy, go and catch some rabbits”.

We had some prisoners of war working on the farm. They had their own lorry and would arrive for work from their Broughton Park camp at 8.00am each morning and leave again at 6.00pm. The Italians did not work as hard as the Germans. Imagine what would have happened in Germany if our POWs had been given a lorry!
