This is me and my buddy and my adopted dog, Nifty.

This photo and caption were submitted to the People's War site by K. Helsby of Congleton Library on behalf of John Gibson and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's term and conditions.

Nifty adopted me in Egypt. He was a mutt who attached himself to me just after the war had finished in the desert. We were able to get cameras then (previously we hadn't been allowed to have cameras in case we were captured), and we had just been told we'd been given a month's leave at home before we had to come back.
