Sergeant Ronald Budd, 26th Queens Royal Regiment, was 17 years old when he enlisted

Served in North Africa with Montgomery and the Italian campaign, mentioned in dispatches and awarded the Oak Leaves medal, fought at Monte Casino. He used to say that when they could get fresh eggs, they would fry them on the bodywork of the tanks. He met the Pope during the war and was blessed by him
