After spending many months digging what seemed a never ending series of trenches,..... moving on,.... then another through various towns in France, then Belgium........
On the way to Dunkirk the lorry had an accident, we lost many of our weapons. When we arrived at Dunkirk we had very little equipment. the Germans seemed to have everything at their disposal, we were so down hearted and quite negative.
Before we came home we buried (in earth and water) what weapons we had so the Germans would not be able to use them against us at some later date
We were amazed we ever got away!
I have a vivid memory of the many thousands of men in the sand dunes. A large 'Shed' had become a hospital. Just men, men, men off into the distance.
I am now disabled in my hands and unable to write (through age, not war!) and have dictated this message to my son in law.
