My father told me recently that at the time of Dunkirk he was a 16 year old at school in Barry, South Wales, sitting his matriculation music examination. On the day of the examination, a Messerschmitt aircraft flew over the town to bomb and straff the docks. The exam was halted and the school went down to the shelters. Once the all clear had been sounded, the exam resumed and it was back to some very different German values - namely Bach and Handel! Normality goes on even in adversity!
