Looking back on the evacuation of the BEF George observed.

From September 1939 to April 1940 we sat doing nothing on the French Belgian border. They (the Germans) started on us in May and by the middle of June we were back home glaring at them across the channel.

When we met them on equal terms we were better than them. We just didn't meet them on equal terms very often.
