This is one of the stories collected on the 25th October 2003 at the CSV's Make a Difference Day held at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Manchester. The story was typed and entered on to the site by a CSV volunteer with kind permission of Margaret Royal.

Peggy’s Story.

Peggy was eight when war started, when she was 11 she was at an all girl’s school and was having lessons in people’s houses, as the school had been taken over by the ARP/Fire Service.
Her father was in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Guard, he mother looked after the four children of which Peggy was the eldest.

Peggy’s family had a brick shelter in the back garden which they slept in at night. They had a dog with some pups, during one air raid a door was blown off and several of the pups escaped, the door to the shelter caved in and the family thought the house was falling down.
During the next day Peggy’s friend wondered to where the bomb had fallen. They were told not to do this in areas that had not been made safe.

When the war was over she remembers that there was jubilation on the streets.
