This story has been added by a volunteer on behalf of the contributor and they have been made aware of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ People’s War website’s House Rules.

I was in Devon from 1942 til 1945 in village of Fleming.

They closed 6 villages whilst they had USA forces rehearsing for D Day but one time a U boat followed them back and 4000 people were killed.

One morning they rehearsed gun fire and one of the other maid girls came in screaming: “I’ve just had Churchill and Eisenhower and Monty in the garden to see how they would be landing for the actual D-Day invasions!â€
