We lived in Corporation Road, Birkenhead and I was only three when the war started, my mum was carrying me and my dad was standing in the back door way saying “They’re parachuting down.” But it turned out to be landmines coming down. They were coming down in a straight line, they hit Our Ladies church. All the nearby streets, people were killed, they blew the school up.
