One North Sea daylight incident was one that stuck in my mind---A "U-Boat"sighted ahead was referred to the skipper Gus Gauss---who right away checked with navigator Keith Orchard to see if there was any report on this area---the answer was "No."Gus Gauss gave the order immediately to open the bomb bay doors, and said "We're sure as hell going in"--Then as we made the attack run(I was doing mid-upper shift at that time),and we got closer we saw it was a submarine alright--and on the surface, but being towed a distance ahead by a Destroyer---then identified by it's flag----as one of ours.
