My wife at the time was 5 or 6 years old. They went to stay with friends when the war started in Eye Suffolk. One night they were invited to a dance on one of the American Air bases. The entertainment for the night was provided by the Glen Miller Band. My wife's first remembered experience of ice cream and bananas was at this dance.
The dance took place just 4 days before Glen Miller's last fatal flight.
