I was born in East London just before the Battle of Britain started so I remember very little of the early years of the war but I do recall our cellar having bunk beds and, towards the end of the war when I was around 4 years old, I remember our bedroom windows overlooking the garden being shattered by the blast from a flying bomb which had landed a short distance away.
