One morning Pam went to school but found the gates were loacked and there were bid lumps of concrete and bricks littering the playground. She went back home. "Mum the school gates were locked." "Her Mum replied that she knew because a note had just been pushed through the door. The school had been bombed last night while Pam and her Mum sheltered in the Andersen air raid shelter at the bottom of their garden. The note said that Pam's school would join with St Catherine's school. Pam's school would go to school in the morning one week and the afternoon the following week. The children from the other school would do the other half days. Lots of the teachers had gone away to fight in the war so this would have happened even if Pam's school had not been bombed.
