MR. M.J. PEREZ’S STORY
I was brought up in Cairo in Egypt. I was 11 when the war started, I heard that war was declared on the English wireless I wasn’t evacuated. I was abroad in Egypt till 1944 in Cairo. At the age of 13 I came to school in England. I travelled in a troop ship and we sat outside Liverpool for several days until it was safe to to go in to port. I stayed with my aunt and uncle in London. Our house wasn’t bombed and I didn’t know anyone who got bombed. I was very happy then when I was old enough I got a job of a farmer because I wasn’t old enough to join the army.
