As told to Tracey Farrell;

I was based at North weald during the battle of Britain. I was ground crew servicing Hurricanes and I lived on site. I worked 7 days straight then I would collapse.
Lord Haw Haw used to say "We'll get you North weald". One August day cloud cover lifted and a German plane saw us. he took photo's and we thought "oh oh, that's trouble" well the next day sirens went off and we all got into the dug outs. I think that lots of WAAFs got killed that day because they were asleep in their beds when they bombed us.
