I remember the day Reading was bombed. I actually saw the plane that dropped the fatal bomb.
I came from a large family of 11 children. My two eldest brothers were sailors, one was an able seaman. I don’t know the names of their ships. Tim, my brother always whistled when he came home. Mother always new it was him. I have fond memories of the blackout days; we used to go to the fish shop or to the pub to get a jug of beer for Mum. She always said that if we heard a plane we were to jump into the hedges for safety, I did and tore my dress, which I got a right licking off for.
