I am now eighty years old, but I remeber the following story as if it was yesterday. My sister and I were together, it was around 7 or 8pm, when without any warning, these planes came flying over very low. The warning then sounded and we knew that it was an air raid. We were very scared and ran all the way home. The next day we found out that the Custom House had been bombed.
My sister and I had been to church, for a bottle of Holy Water, which my mother used to spray all over the house and us whenever there was a raid on. We used to think this was very funny. But when I look back I suppose it was this and all her prayers which kept us safe, because we had many near misses but we where never bombed out.
