My mother had 6 children, the first 3 died of pneumonia, she was heavily pregnant at the time with me when she had to send the remaining 3 away to wales, they set off at Lime street station with all their best clothes and their gas masks.I was born on 'Remembrance Day'. When it was time for mother and children to be re-united she went to Lime Street station to meet them, she could not believe her eyes, they were all covered in scabs and minus all thier clothes, the children told her the lady who looked after them scrubbed them every day with a scrubbing brush till they bled. On going to the ticket office for the tickets home my mother discovered that she had lost her purse, luck'ily my eldest sister who was only 8 yrs old had been given 2 shillings by one of the neighbours in Wales, my mother asked her would she like to buy the baby for 2 bob, she was delighted. When they returned home they were only home for 2 and a half months when our house was completely bombed out, luck'ily we were all in the air raid shelter at the time. My father was serving in the Burma Jungle at the time and did not set eyes on me till I was 4 yrs old.
