A parachute mine was dropped during an air raid and landed without exploding on the hillside overlooking the shipbuilding town of Port Glasgow. A Constable was left to standby it until the Bomb Disposal Squad attended. The farmer's wife at a nearby farm invited the officer in for a cup of tea. On his return not only had the parachute and the thick silk cords been stolen but the detonator had been unscrewed and removed.
