During an air raid my mother had forgotten to take something to the shelter so she asked my brother and I to go to the house and fetch it before going back my brother said "there is a lot of shrapnel falling let's put on one of mum's saucepans," which we did. Back at the shelter our mother said it was foolish to have nothing soft inside the pan and said next time put a teacosy on your head first.
