I was in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Guard in the second world war. I was in a reserved occupation as I was a farmer with a milk round.
One morning I remember seeing a German bomber coming low over the cemetery in Hereford. I think he was looking for the Ordinance Depot at Rotherwas.
I used to carry a loaded Royal Enfield rifle on my rounds, but the plane was too fast to shoot and I wouldn’t have wanted the bombs to go off over my head .
