My friend and I were fishing on the banks of theRiver Witham. close to the Boultham Swimming Baths, in Lincoln. Suddenly we heard a noise which we quickly realised was maching gun fire from aircraft.A german plane flew above our heads, about 30ft to 40ft high. Close behind followed a Spitfire. Mr friend jumped in the river and I did a backward flip into the largest bed of nettles one has ever seen. The walk home was a long one
