I joined the RAF straight from school as an Aircraft apprentice, at RAF Halton, September 5th 1939.
Because of the war, what should have been a 3-year apprenticeship was cut to just 2 years. I began my training as a boy (aged 15) and left as a man (aged 17).
My apprentice number was: 577280, 40th entry
