My main memory of the war was when I was eight the Americans came to Rougham. I remember how smart they were and how much better their uniforms were than our servicemen. I used to watch them, these big men, and look at their planes. At the time I didn't understand how serious it all was.
My other memory is my brother returning from the war. I was young when he went away and I didn't recognise him when he came home. He had been taken prisoner at the start of the war and returned home at the end.
