My name is Brenda Cooper. I come from Yorkshire, a village called Cottingham just outside of Hull. When I was a child of 5, my father was an officer in the fire service, and all the beaches in Bridlington were covered over with barbed wire. I remember that you couldn’t go on the beaches. One day, I remember that we were walking along the front and a German plane came and followed us all the way along the promenade. It was just my Mum and I. Now I realise how lucky were not to get bombed. It was very scary.
